6 shows, 2 photo shoots, 1 special edition mixtape and many new relationships, the #ILMPJapanTour2012 is an undeniable success.

*

Young, ambitious and as relevant internationally as he is domestically, DJ Kutt Throat is ‘the plug’.

*

@TokyoTwilighter : What was the best part of your trip?

*

@DJKuttThroat : The best part of my trip was…  Well, honestly the whole tour was just so amazing it’s hard for me to pick one moment.  But I guess if I had to pick one it would be when my big homie Cross from Pimp Code jewlery gave me this double cup chain.  SALUTE! 😉

*

@TokyoTwilighter : Who were some of the people you met?

*

@DJKuttThroat : I met a lot of interesting people on this tour. From the oldest with a lot of wisdom to the youngest with a lot of ambition.  That’s a hard question.

*

@TokyoTwilighter : Why do you define your tour as successful?
*
@DJKuttThroat : That’s easy.  The proof is in the work.  In less than two weeks we managed to pull off 6 shows, 2 photoshots, a mixtape and a new website! Sounds like SUCCESS to me.
*

@TokyoTwilighter : How did you work through the language barrier?

*

@DJKuttThroat : That’s funny you asked that.  It really wasn’t difficult.  Just say we never knew what each other said, but we always understood each other, especially me and my business partner Taison (@TEAMRoscoeJPN)
*
@TokyoTwilighter : What significance did digital promotion have on your tour?
*
@DJKuttThroat :  My whole team did a great job of promoting the whole tour virally.  Digital promotion has the ability to reach places you might never reach with other more traditional approaches.
*
@TokyoTwilighter : When can we expect the special edition mixtape for the tour?
*
@DJKuttThroat : The mixtape can be downloaded via livemixtapes.com and other sites. Google it… 😉  It’s titled ‘I Love My Plug Japan Vol 1 : Special Tour Edition 2012’ and it’s in collaboration with Japanese Kansai based DJ, DJ Katz-Zow ( @KatzZow ) and hosted by local Tokyo-based MC Pretty Ricky (@PrettyRickyJPN)
*

@TokyoTwilighter : What is next on the agenda for you?

*

@DJKuttThroat :  Just gearing up to return to Japan in late April to early May. See ya then.

Day 11 : 3:28 a.m. Tokyo Time and extra hype in Roppongi’s Club Ibex

Straight from a website planning meeting to an 8 hour studio session for the #ILMPJapanTour2012 Special Edition mixtape and then from a ‘Sayonara’ dinner to the club, even with 36 hours of working straight on no sleep DJ Kutt Throat was STILL hype at 3:38 a.m. to keep up with the energetic Japanese crowds used to partying from 12-7am, even on a Monday.

*

One shock that DJs and artists from the US visiting Japan always experience is how late the parties stay open, especially in Tokyo.  Doors typically open at 11pm, people begin trailing in by 1230 and by 2am the party is in full swing, often with party goers refusing to leave until 6 or 7 in the morning.  After hours spots have been known to close as late as 5pM the next day.

*

For Kutt, after 5 shows in 4 different cities, he was prepared to close out the tour with a bang.  Playing a special Roscoe Dash set with exclusives from the J.U.I.C.E. EP released in late December in America the crowd in the popular Roppongi club began shouting the lyrics to ‘Awesome’ so loud they drownd out the sound system.  Mixing in songs from independents including the catchy ‘Diamonds in the Sky’ joint by @DirtDolla the Monday night Tokyo crowd threw up their A’s enthusiastically as they faced the DJ booth with cell phones up to take photos of the Plug DJ.

*

The ‘I Love My Plug Japan Tour Vol 1’ Special Edition 2012 mixtape with exclusives from Young Jeezy as well as music from Japanese artists Micho and Reaper will be available for free download on livemixtapes.com from Tuesday, January 17th Japan time.

Day 10 : ‘Digital Foot-printing’ and why it’s a must

Words by @TokyoTwilighter

*

Travelling the world and sharing your trade is a beautiful thing, but if no one knows about it how far can you really build on the foundation you’re pounding out?

*

When DJ Kutt Throat accepted the invitation to come back out to Japan again he knew he wanted his tour to be  not only about creating business relationships and meeting fans but more importantly keeping record of all the steps in his brand’s movement in Asia.

*

For him he knew that the most efficient way to maintain relevance and momentum would be by leaving his digital footprint across the web thus not only legitimizing his tour, but making him more accessible for others looking to connect with him.

*

The best way to see for yourself would be to type in #ILMPJapanTour2012 or DJ Kutt Throat into a search engine.  Still not convinced?  Try typing those words into a Japanese search engine and be amazed at how much coverage for an Atlanta DJ can buzz in Japan in less than two weeks.

*

YouTube, Twitter, mixtapes, blogging and other forms of social media all do a great job of memorializing the process but how does the day to day activity get onto the web?  Well, that’s what a team is for and that’s exactly why DJ Kutt Throat has been so successful.

Day 9 : Tapping into Local Talent in Japan

Day 9 Tapping into local talent

One of the pillars of Plug Enterprises, a company co-founded by DJ Kutt Throat, Big Plug and money plug is the belief that those with the ‘juice’ need to plug talented individuals into opportunities for them to explore their potential.

*

When Kutt met MC Pretty Ricky at club Xanadu in Shibuya, he recognized man on the mic’s strong voice, keen sense of timing and energetic presence on the stage.  From there it only made sense for Kutt to collaborate with the popular mc and radio show host while in Japan.

*

Saturday (January 14) MC Ricky joined Roscoe Dash’s official tour dj on stage in Tochigi’s Club South BBC to rock the party and entertain club go-ers. A venue that has been host to shows by American artists such as Lil Scrappy and Ace Hood, the Philly native MC and Atlanta bred MC played off one another so skillfully it was hard to believe it was their first time together on stage.

*

Crowd favorites included 2chainz, ROSCOE DASH and the latest out of Atlanta “band$” by Kayode (@Kayode1986) featuring Grand Slam played for the first time in Japan that night. From there resident DJ Kazuya got on the 1s and 2s skillfully scratching top 40 hits while Kutt was mobbed by fans on stage as he continued drinking straight out of the bottle his signature drink of choice Hennessey.

*

Five out of six shows on the #ILMPlugJAPANtour2012 smashed out of the park with the grand finale going down on Monday (January 16) at Club Ibex in Roppongi.

Day 8 : #ILMPJapanTour2012 heads to Osaka

Day 8 : #ILMPJapanTour2012 heads to Osaka

Words by @TokyoTwilighter

After-hours Club Heaven in Osaka was packed wall to wall on Friday (January 13) for DJ Kutt Throat’s one hour set.  The typically top 40 party responded well to the Atlanta native famous for breaking artists domestically and overseas.  Jumping on the mic and ignoring the language barrier, Kutt was able to communicate with the Japanese crowd via his dynamic personality and enthusiasm on the turntables.

Kutt mixed in hits from all areas of the South, then when he started to play the west coast hits the crowd went nuts on the dance floor.  The entire set was a definite success with all attendees enjoying familiar hits as well as the new music fresh to both the Atlanta and Japan scene.

The event was a turning point for the tour on another level as DJ Kutt Throat and DJ Katz-zow met in person for their first time ever.  The two south hip hop specialists will be collaborating for the ‘I Love My Plug Japan Tour 2012’ special edition mixtape scheduled for release on Tuesday, January 17th (Japan time), on the last day of the tour.
