Some people stay grounded,  some go straight to the top.

It’s rare for an artist to enjoy more than 3-4 days in Asia, most cases their trips are almost as long as the flights they took to get there.  On the rare occasion that artists enjoy Japan for more than a brief layover there’s always the question of what to do with that precious time on the road that travelling DJs seldom get to enjoy.

For DJ Kutt Throat, day 5 (January 10) may have been his day of rest but it was also an opportunity to connect with parts of the Japanese culture even tourists seldom get to enjoy.  The day began with a spiritual experience at the Meiji Shrine in Harajyuku where the #ILMPJapan team prayed for strength and prosperity in 2012, and then onto the world-famous Takeshita shopping street where Japanese youth gather for the latest fashion trends.  Kutt found the elusive Air Jordan Concords, but as luck would have it nothing available in his size.  After that the team continued on to the top of Tokyo Tower, 333m high above the city that never stops working for a bird’s eye view of the metropolitan center that stretches as far as the horizon and beyond.

On the second floor of the Tower, a sketch artist offered to draw Kutt so that he’d have a souvenir to commemorate his trip.  The middle-aged gentleman took extra care to including the detailing on Kutt’s ‘I Love My Plug’ cap as well as the ‘Kutt Throat’ chain that the DJ is rarely, if ever, seen without.  Using brushes for Japanese calligraphy writing, the artist made sure to title the piece in Japanese ‘I Love My Plug Japan’.

The evening ended with an in-depth explanation of the ‘I Love My Plug’ concept with Japanese translation for the members of the ‘I Love My Plug’ Japan team.  Finally grasping what a ‘plug’ is, the looks of comprehension brought the biggest smile seen yet on the tour to Kutt’s face.

Information of the Japan to Atlanta #ILMPlugJapanTour2012 Mixtape featuring US and Japanese independent artists coming soon.
